Five Sentence Fiction - ENRAPTURE

Alone in the darkened hospital room, I cradle his newborn warmth against my bare skin. Although we have spent the last nine months together, this is the first time we have ever really met.
I gently trace my finger along every feature of his precious face, committing them not only to my memory, but to my heart and my soul. I whisper hopes and dreams and love for him into his perfect ear.
His tiny fingers grasp mine and I kiss the top of his downy head.

    1. Thank you for reading my post, Tempest. I'm glad it brought you tears of happiness. Meeting your child for the first time really is the most moving experience. My son is 18 and I still get choked up thinking about the day he was born.

  3. MY FIVE SENTENCE REPLY (not counting this heading):

People always told me that nothing in your life would be the same afterward , which I always thought was just a way to inject mystery to something that seemed straightforward. Yet, as I sit at my wife’s side in a brightly lit operating room and hear the first cries from our son, now I get it.

I never thought that it would be an auditory cue that flipped that emotional switch, but switch it did. As tears of joy cloud my vision, only one thought floats in my mind.

Now and forever more, I’m a father.

    1. That's beautiful. And it's fun to get a response in the 5 sentence form.
I really like how you point out that it's not always our vision which sparks emotion or a memory.
      Thanks for stopping by!
