It seemed like such a small thing to wish for.
Something most other people had; Nothing out of the ordinary.
But nothing had been ordinary since Papa lost his job. Mama tried to keep her smile, but everyday the tears in her voice edged up a little closer.
Huddled in the back seat of the family car under the big, blue blanket with her sister, watching the snow fall silently around them, she could at least pretend they were back in their old bedroom ... If she closed her eyes tight enough.
This is a great little story, even if it is kind of sad. Good job!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteSuch a sad little tale, unfortunately for many, it's not fiction. Great idea, as usual.
ReplyDeleteI've got to get back to writing the stories. I miss it, just haven't had the time.
Thanks, Barb! I'm glad to see you're back in action. Summertime does get pretty busy and it can be hard to keep up with it.
DeleteHow to break a heart in five sentences. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad for the broken heart, but happy to hear it evoked the emotion I was going for. Thanks for the comment, Patricia.
